His Story
Michael Dean Wallace Sr. was born on July 15, 1947, in Salina, Kansas, to Vance Darling Wallace and Mary Jean (Ribble) Wallace. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965, then went on to Bethel College and Hutchinson Community College, where he earned his Associate’s Degree. He later attended Wichita Area Technical School and earned his Nursing License.
Michael served his country across three branches of the military. He served in the United States Navy as a corpsman during the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Hearts, and he also served in the United States Marine Corps and the National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge from all three.
He loved farming, and spent 15 years as a self-employed farmer. He later opened and managed the McDonald’s on 30th Street in Hutchinson.
On July 11, 1998, Michael married Becky Tucker in Hutchinson. He was a member of The Father’s House, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Legion Post 68.
Michael’s parents and his brother, Doug Wallace, died before him.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Wallace; his children Georgie Jacobs, Michael Wallace Jr., Michelle Wallace, Daniel Wallace, and Ryan Pinkston; ten grandchildren, Jake, Zachary, Ashley, Rylee, Reis, Kaden, Olivia, Austin, Shawn, and Cara; six great-grandchildren, Kya, Hartley, Jackson, Mila, Stevie, and Jovie; and his sisters, Kathy McClanahan, Becky Wallace, and Debbie Gibson. Michael died on Monday, October 17, 2022, at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas, at the age of 75.
